Why December isn’t the slack period estate agents might have expected

Why December isn’t the slack period estate agents might have expected

Would you move house at Christmas?
We’ve all heard the expression “in before Christmas”, but how difficult is it to move into your new home in the run up to the festive season?

Many of us believe that in order to host a traditionally-quaint Christmas gathering, we must be settled into a house and fully decorated a long time before December 25th.

In a recent survey of more than 1,000 people in the UK conducted by Box Shack, more than half of the respondents claimed that they would choose to move house during the April-to-June quarter. A further 25% said that, if given the choice, they’d rather move house between July and September, reiterating people’s desire to be done and dusted well before Christmas.

Moving house is not an exact science

We’d all love to pick an exact week when we’d rather move house, but it’s unlikely that anybody will be afforded this luxury in reality.

Circumstances dictate when and where you move. You might be the most organised person in the world, but if the person selling your dream home is not quite as on the ball, there will be a knock-on effect. If you know how to sell a house quickly, you’ll stand yourself in good stead when it comes to making a rapid transition, but you still can’t legislate for what other people in the chain are doing.

Everything closes, or does it?

Nobody wants to go through the hassle of trying to move house only to find that their estate agent isn’t available to speak to because the office has closed for Christmas.

Traditionally, everything closes at Christmas. This, coupled with the stress of buying presents and organising gatherings, explains why few people see the festive period as an ideal time to relocate. However, things are changing and more people are working as normal over Christmas, including estate agents.

We’d be forgiven for thinking that December would be a slack period for Newton & Co, but thus far it’s proven to be anything but. As we’ve already alluded to, house buyers and renters have to strike when an opportunity arises, they cannot afford to wait for a more convenient time. If your contract runs out in December, you have no choice but to move in December, regardless of whether there is snow falling outside or not.

Here at Newton & Co we don’t believe that there should be times of the year that are easier to move than others. We think that with the right help, you can easily get settled into your new house anytime of the year – stress free.

That’s why we promise to deliver excellent customer service all year round, we will never leave you to deal with a problem yourself just because it is 5pm or we fancy a trip to the Christmas markets.
